Originally, the Church of Urquhart belonged to the Abbey of Inchcolm, being dedicated first to St Irchard and then to St Margaret. Inveraven and Urquhart together made a prebend of Elgin Cathedral, held by the Chancellor of the Diocese of Moray. In 1937 Urquhart Parish Church united with Urquhart St Margaret's (formerly United Free), and after selling the old St Margaret's church and manse, extensive renovations of the parish church were carried out. The charge was linked with Garmouth in 1944, but the linkage was terminated when Urquhart and St Andrews-Lhanbryd churches were united in 1988. |
