The Tron Church was founded in 1637 to serve the South East parish of Edinburgh, it was opened in 1647 but the building did not reach completion until 1663. In 1665 a part of the parish was accommodated by Lady Yester's. The Tron during the next 100 years served as a place of worship for the more aristocratic element of Edinburgh and the General Assembly met in the Tron from 1830 until 1840. In 1951 the General Assembly decided to transport the congregation of the Tron to Moredun , the move took place in 1952 and the Old Tron Kirk was sold to the Town Council. |
