Arbroath parish was disjoined from St. Vigean's around 1585: the abbey on which the parish was based had been founded by King William the Lion (1165 - 1214). The first post-Reformation minister was Ninian Clemett or Clement, in 1564. A series of quoad sacra parishes were disjoined from the main parish in the late nineteenth century: Inverbrothock in 1855; Ladyloan in 1865; Abbey in 1869; and St Margaret's and Auchmithie in 1886. |
