The parish church of Edderton, which was first erected in pre-reformation times was rebuilt in 1774 and again in 1841-1842. Ministry of the session of Edderton is recorded from 1567, in the person of Farquhar Reid. Following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Edderton Parish Church was termed Edderton East and in 1939 Edderton East formed a union with the former United Free Church congregation of Edderton West. The two charges united under the name of Edderton and both churches continued in use until 1960 when the former United Free Church was demolished. In 1975 Edderton was linked with Tain and in 1976 a union was established between the charges of Edderton, Croick and Kincardine, under the name of Kincardine, Croick and Edderton. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Tain, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Sutherland. |
