The congregation of Shotts Erskine first began in 1846 and existed originally as a mission station until 1848, when the charge was sanctioned and became Shotts Free Church, the church of Shotts Free Church, which was rebuilt in 1878, was also erected during the year 1848. At the 1900 union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Shotts Free Church became Shotts United Free Church and in 1929, following the union of the church of Scotland and the United Free Church, the congregation became Shotts Erskine, Church of Scotland. Shotts Erskine, was united in 1989 with the charge of Shotts Calderhead, under the name of Shotts Calderhead Erskine. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
