The Kirk Session of Kilchrenen and Dalavich was established in 1661 when the passing of the Act Recissory caused the union of the two parishes. Following the union both parishes retained its own church and during the later years of the 18th century each building was replaced by a new structure. Of old the church of Kilchrenen had belonged to the Abbey of Paisley and held a dedication to St Peter the Deacon. In 1939, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Kilchrenan and Dalavich joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Kilchrenan West and Portsonachan. After the local union, the charge continued under the name of Kilchrenan and Dalavich, the former West church was sold in 1950 to the Forestry Commissioners, and in 1980 a link was established with the charge of Muckairn. The session sat for a time within the Presbytery of Inveraray until 1729 when it was transferred to the Presbytery of Lorn, and in 1963, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Lorn and the Presbytery of Mull were united under the name of the Presbytery of Lorn and Mull. |
