The medieval church was granted to Holyrood Abbey by David, son of Terr, later confirmed by John, Bishop of Whithorn, (1189-1209). By the 1560s the church had been appropriated to the Priory of St. Mary's Isle. Ministry in the session of Anwoth (alternatively known as Avonwaith) began with William Moscrop, 1563. The parish church was rebuilt in 1626 and again in 1828. The session lay under the jurisdiction of Kirkcudbright. On 25 October 1975 the session united with Girthon to form the session of Anwoth and Girthon. |
