The church of Dar-es-Salaam St Columba's, of the Parish of Tanganyika (later Tanzania), sat within the Presbytery of East Africa. Mission work,. in connection with the Scottish Church, has been carried out in Africa since the early 19th century, initially by the Glasgow and Edinburgh Missionary Societies (both founded in 1796) and as the century progressed the work of the overseas missionaries became increasingly governed by the Foreign Missions Committees of the Scottish churches. |
