Burnside Church, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, began with proposals to erect a church in the newly developed area in 1925. A temporary church, in Church Avenue, was dedicated in 1928 and Burnside became a quoad sacra parish two years later. By 1939 plans were being prepared for a new building, but the war delayed implementation. After the termination of St Gilbert?s Church, Glasgow, its buildings were removed to Burnside to serve the Burnside congregation. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
