The parish of Glasgow St Stephen's was erected on 8 July 1857, the General Assembly having granted a constitution for a chapel here a number of years prior in 1835. In 1945 a union was established between Glasgow St Stephen's and the charge of Glasgow Buccleuch, under the name of Glasgow St Stephen's-Buccleuch. After this local union the former St Stephen's church continued in use as the place of worship and the former Buccleuch church was converted for use as a church hall. An additional union followed in 1960 with the charge of St Matthew's to form the session of St Stephen's Blythswood and St Stephen's Blythswood further united in 1967 with Cowcaddens, under the name of Glasgow St Stephen's. Glasgow St Stephen's joined in 1974 with the congregation of Glasgow Renfield to become Glasgow Renfield St Stephen's. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Glasgow. |
