On the 31st May 1868 a chapel was opened for worship at Port Dundas and in 1876 the parish of Port Dundas was erected when it was disjoined from that of the Barony of Glasgow. A number of years later in 1916, the area comprising Port Dundas parish was annexed, by authority of Parliament, to Milton, and the parish of Buccleuch was formed by the transferal of the endowment of Port Dundas to a new parochial district. In 1954 a union was established between Glasgow Buccleuch and the charge of Glasgow St Stephen's, under the name of Glasgow St Stephen's-Buccleuch. After this local union the former St Stephen's church continued in use as the place of worship and the former Buccleuch church was converted for use as a church hall. An additional union followed in 1960 with the charge of St Matthew's to form the session of St Stephen's Blythswood and St Stephen's Blythswood further united in 1967 with Cowcaddens, under the name of Glasgow St Stephen's. Glasgow St Stephen's joined in 1974 with the congregation of Glasgow Renfield to become Glasgow St Stephen's Renfield. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Glasgow. |
