Maxwell Church, Glasgow, began in temporary premises in Kingston in 1864. A church building, in Pollok Street at Ardgowan Street, followed a year later, and the quoad sacra parish was disjoined in 1867. It was named after Sir John Maxwell of Pollok (d 1865), who provided the endowment. The parish terminated in 1969 and became part of Maxwell Mearns Castle. The church building was demolished as part of the works for the approach roads on the south side of the new Kingston Bridge. It was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
