The parish of Carnoustie was established in 1863, when it was disjoined from that of Barry and erected as a separate parish, quoad sacra. The church of the parish, which had been built a number of years prior in 1838, was later replaced by a new structure in 1902. Following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Carnoustie parish church was termed Carnoustie Old and in 1969 Carnoustie Old united with the former United Free Church congregation of Carnoustie St Stephen's, under the name of Carnoustie, and under the ministry of Rev F. Clark, minister at Carnoustie St Stephen's. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath, later of Dundee and, following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
