On the 21st February 1898 a meeting of Scottish ministers of parishes quoad sacra (quoad sacra meaning a parish disjoined for ecclesiastical purposes only) was held at Presbytery House in Glasgow. The meeting had been called in view of the fact that forth-coming legislation, affecting the interests of quoad sacra parishes, and the welfare of their charges, was likely to come into discussion at the next General Assembly, and succeeding assemblies, thus it was deemed necessary to establish some organised means of providing the ministers of the aforementioned churches with a platform upon which they could express their views. It was during this meeting therefore that it was proposed that an association of ministers of quoad sacra parishes from throughout Scotland be formed, for the purpose of taking control of matters of special interest to quoad sacra congregations. The association, which was first organised under the title of the Association of Ministers of Parishes Quoad Sacra, and of Chapels of Ease, met regularly in Edinburgh and record of the meetings are kept up to the year 1951. |
