St Paul?s (Outer High) Church, Glasgow, originated in 1648 with the fitting out of the nave of Glasgow Cathedral as a place of worship for the East Parish of the city, known as the Outer High Kirk. The first minister was Patrick Gillespie (1617-1675), principal of Glasgow University and a prominent national political figure. In 1836 a separate church was built in Frederick Street, and in 1907 another in John Street at Martha Street. The congregation united with St David?s (Ramshorn) as St Paul?s (Outer High) and St David?s (Ramshorn) in 1953. A further union took place in 1982 with The Barony Church, but the congregation was dissolved only a few years later in 1985. It was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
