The vicarage of Dalry belonged of old to the Abbey of Kilwinning and the session records ministry from 1564, in the person of John Hepburn. There originally existed two churches within the parish, one on the east side of the village, which was dedicated to St Margaret, and one on the west side. Early in the 17th century, possibly in 1608, a newly erected church was opened to replace the two older buildings and in 1771 this church was superceeded by a new structure. In more recent years, Dalry St Margaret's church was restored during the years 1949-1951, but was fire damaged in 1951 and remained closed until 1953. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Irvine and presently falls under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Ardrossan. |
