The old church of Nenthorn, which was in existence during the early 12th century, belonged anciently to the Priory of Coldingham and in 1316 William of Lamberton granted the church to the Abbey of Kelso. A new church was erected in 1802 close to the site of the original building. In 1950 Nenthorn united with the charge of Stichill and Hume, under the name of Stichill, Hume and Nenthorn, with the former Nenthorn parish church continuing in use after the union, and a link was established between the united session and Makerstoun and Smailholm in 1963. This link however was terminated in the following year, but in 1975 the arrangement with Makerstoun and Smailholm was re-established once more. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Lauder until 1776 when, by Act of Assembly, it was annexed to the Presbytery of Kelso, it later became a part of the Presbytery of Jedburgh and Kelso and presently sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Jedburgh. |
