The Kirk Session of Tinwald, which records ministry from 1567, in the name of Andrew Renton, was united in 1560 with the ancient parish of Trailflat. The church of the parish was rebuilt in 1769 on the foundations of an earlier building. In 1970 Tinwald established a link with the session of Kirkmichael and Garvell, a further link followed in 1981 with Torthorwald, and the three linked parishes were later united under the name of Kirkmichael, Tinwald and Torthorwald. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dumfries, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
