The old church of Alvah, which was rebuilt in 1792, was dedicated to St Colman and belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Abbey of Coupar. The session records ministry from 1574, in the person of Henry Mortimer, reader. In 1954 Alvah was united with the charge of Ord to form the session of Ord-Alvah however this union was dissolved in 1961 in favour of a union with Banff Trinity, under the name of Banff Trinity and Alvah. Further union later followed in 1994 with Banff St Mary's to form the session of Banff. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Turriff and later of Fordyce until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
