The old church of Strachan, which was rebuilt in 1866, was dedicated to St Mary and the kirk session records ministry from 1574, in the person of John Irvine, reader. In 1950, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Strachan Old Parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Strachan West. After the union, under the name of Strachan, the parish church continued to serve as the place of worship and the former West church was converted for use as a church hall. In 1958 Strachan established a link with the charge of Finzean and in 1987 the two linked charges, along with that of Birse, united to form the session of Birse and Feughside. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil and later of Deeside until 1962 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Deeside and the Presbytery of Alford were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Deeside and Alford. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Kincardine and Deeside. |
