The Kirk Session of West Linton was established following the Reformation in 1560. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1561. Prior to the Reformation, the church belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. The old church was replaced with a newer building in 1781 or 1782. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of West Linton became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. In 1929 the charge became known as West Linton St Andrew's Church and in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. West Linton was linked with Carlops in 1965, and with Kirkurd and Newlands in 1985. |
