The parish of Winchburgh was established in 1904 when it was disjoined from Kirkliston and Dalmeny and erected quoad sacra, by decreet of the Court of Teinds. The church which came to serve as the parish church of Winchburgh had been erected a number of years prior in 1891. In 1946, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Winchburgh Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Abercorn South and Winchburgh. After the union the charge continued under the name of Winchburgh and a link was later established in 1965 with Pardovan and Kingscavil. In 1997 the link with Pardovan and Kingscavil was dissolved in favour of a union between the parishes, under the name of Pardovan, Kingscavil and Winchburgh. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, later of Linlithgow and Falkirk and, following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of West Lothian. |
