The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland proposed the erection of the Presbytery of Dumfries in April 1581 and it was in existence by 21 August 1593. The registers start on 5 April 1647 but there is a gap from 6 August 1661 until 9 November 1687 during the period that Episcopacy was imposed upon Scotland by law. |
