The parish of Kilarrow and Bowmore, otherwise known simply as Kilarrow, was united with the charge of Kilchoman between the years 1618 and 1769. Additionally, in or around the year 1769, Kilarrow parish church, which was dedicated to St Malrubh, was removed from Kilarrow to the village of Bowmore, where the present day building was erected. In 1931, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Kilarrow was joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Bowmore. After the union, under the name of Kilarrow, the former United Free church was converted for use as a church hall. In 1973 a link was established with Kilmeny. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Islay and later of Islay and Jura, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
