Edinburgh: New Greyfriars Kirk Session originated in 1722, when the Greyfriars kirk was rebuilt after the destruction of the tower in 1718 and four bays at the west end of the reconstructed building became New Greyfriars (originally called Wester Greyfriars). The parish area comprised some of Old Greyfriars and the Tolbooth. New Greyfriars united with Old Greyfriars in 1929 to form Greyfriars and Greyfriars later united with Lady Yester's in 1938 and with the congregation of New North in 1941. The union of Greyfriars and Highland Tolbooth St Johns followed in 1979 to form Greyfriars, Tolbooth and Highland. A further union took place with the congregation of Kirk o'Field Church of Scotland in 2013 forming Edinburgh Greyfriars Kirk (Church of Scotland). |
