The kirk session of Broxburn was established in 1903 when the parish was disjoined from that of Uphall and erected quoad sacra by decreet of the Court of Teinds. The parish church had been built a number of years prior in 1884. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, the congregation became known as Broxburn St Nicholas and in 1964 Broxburn St Nicholas, and the former United Free charge of Broxburn St John's, were united together to form the session of Broxburn St Andrew's. Further union later followed in 1975 with Broxburn West, under the name of Broxburn. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow and later of Bathgate, until the name of Bathgate Presbytery was changed by the General Assembly of 1964 to Livingston and Bathgate. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of West Lothian. |
