Duddingston Kirk's building dates back to the 12th century; it belonged pre-Reformation to the Abbey of Kelso. The parish was never very large, and two chapels of ease were opened at Portobello in the 19th century. The parish area was further diminished in 1929 when former United Free churches were given parish areas of responsibility. The kirk is in the Presbytery of Edinburgh. Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was an elder at Duddingston Kirk for a time. |
