The church of Closeburn, which belonged prior to the reformation to the Abbey of Kelso, was united by the General Assembly with the parish of Dalgarno in 1606. The union was later confirmed by Parliament and the united charge became termed simply, Closeburn . At a time after the union, the church of Dalgarno, which held a dedication to St Michael and had belonged to the Abbey of Holyrood, ceased to be used and in 1741 Closeburn parish church was rebuilt. In 1980 Closeburn established a link with Durisdeer. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Penpont, later of Dumfries and, following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
