In or around the year 887 St Deavanach was buried at Banchory and it was to him that the church of this parish was dedicated. Banchory-Devenick was formerly a prebend of Aberdeen and the session records ministry from 1560, in the person of Patrick Dunbar. In 1935, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Banchory-Devenick old parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Banchory-Devenick, St Devenick's on the Hill. A link later followed with Maryculter in 1972 which continued following the union of Maryculter and Cookney in 1982. Banchory-Devenick united with Maryculter/Cookney in 2000. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Aberdeen, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Kincardine and Deeside. |
