Mission work first began within the district of Edinburgh Mayfield in 1877 with worship initially taking place within an iron church, which was later sold for use at Craiglockhart. The parish church of Mayfield was opened in Craigmillar Park on the 6th July 1879 and the parish of Mayfield was disjoined from that of Liberton and erected quoad sacra in 1888. At the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929 Mayfield Parish Church became termed Mayfield South and in 1966 Mayfield South united with Craigmillar Park, under the name of Craigmillar Park, and under the ministry of Rev I. MacTaggart, minister at Craigmiller Park. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
