The Kirk Session of Keir, which records ministry from 1632 in the person of David Merchiston, was disjoined from that of Holywood during the 17th century and the parish church of Keir was later rebuilt in 1814. In 1957 Keir united with the session of Penpont and in 1980 a further union followed with the charge of Tynron, under the name of Penpont, Keir and Tynron. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Penpont and later of Dumfries, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
