Inverkip Parish church, which sits within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Greenock, belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Abbey of Paisley. Ministry of the kirk session is recorded from 1574, in the person of George Thomson. In 1936, following the Union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Inverkip Parish Church (known in later years as Inverkip East) united with the former United Free Church congregation of Inverkip West. Following the local union the Parish church remained in use as the place of worship and the former West church was converted for use as a church hall. |
