The church of Alvie, which was rebuilt in 1789, held a dedication to St Drostan and was formerly a commune kirk of the Cathedral of Elgin. During the 16th and 17th centuries the parishes of Laggan and of Alvie were twice united together, once during the years of 1572 and 1636 and for a second time between the years of 1672 and 1708. In 1932 a further and more lasting union occurred with the charge of Insh, under the name of Alvie and Insh, after the union both churches remained in use for public worship and both underwent renovations in 1951 and 1952 respectively. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Abernethy. |
