In around the year 1580 the parish of Insh, or of old Innis Eoghain, was united to the parish of Kingussie. In 1830 however, a Parliamentary charge was established at Insh and in 1869 the parish was once more disjoined from Kingussie and erected quoad sacra. The old church of Insh, which was dedicated to St Adamnan, is thought to be the only church in Scotland to have been in continuous use for public worship since its erection, in the 6th century, to the present day. In 1932 Insh was united with the charge of Alvie, under the name of Alvie and Insh, after the union both churches remained in use for public worship and both underwent renovations in 1951 and 1952 respectively. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Abernethy. |
