Prior to the 16th century the parish of Lochgoilhead and of Kilmorich were united together. The church of Lochgoilhead was formerly a prebend of Lismore belonging to the Archdeacon of Argyll and the church of Kilmorich belonged to the Abbey of Inchaffrey. Ministry of the united session is recorded from 1601, in the person of Duncan Campbell. The parish generally became termed simply, Lochgoilhead, and after the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929 the name Lochgoilhead The Three Bretheren was taken, after an ancient dedication given to the old church of Lochgoilhead, built in 1379. In 1952 Lochgoilhead The Three Bretheren formed a union with the charge of Lochgoilhead Gibson, reverting to the title of Lochgoilhead and Kilmorich. The Kirk Session sits within the Presbytery of Dunoon. |
