The Parish of Crailing was united anciently with parishes of Nisbet and Spittal and the church of the parish, which was rebuilt in the mid 18th century, belonged prior to the reformation to the Abbey of Jedburgh. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1586, in the person of George Johnston. In 1931, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Crailing Old parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Crailing Samuel Rutherford Memorial and after the local union the former Samuel Rutherford Memorial church fell into use as a church hall. A link later followed in 1960 with Eckford and the two session were united a number of years thereafter in 1977, under name of Crailing and Eckford. A further link was also established in 1977 with Oxnam however this arrangement was later terminated in 1999 in favour of a linkage with Ancrum and Lilliesleaf. The kirk session presently sits within the Presbytery of Jedburgh. |
