It is believed that there may have been a place of worship in existence on the site of the church of Fyvie since around the year 715, and during the 12th century the Parish Church of Fyvie, which was dedicated to St Peter, was granted to Abbey of Arbroath, (founded in 1178 by William the Lion). The present day church was erected in 1808 is thought to be the fourth to stand on or around this location. In 1959 Fyvie united with the charge of Fyvie Woodhead and a further union occurred in 1974 with Millbrex, with the session remaining under the name of Fyvie after both unions. A link later followed with Rothienorman in 1993. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Turriff until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. Also within the bounds of Fyvie is St Mary's Mission Chapel. |
