The church of Glenbervie, which records ministry from 1560 in the person of John Christison, was formerly a prebend of Brechin Cathedral and was dedicated to St Michael. In 1929 the congregation became Glenbervie West Church of Scotland, but later in 1933 was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Glenbervie East, with both churches remaining in use after the union, and the name of the united charge reverting to Glenbervie Church of Scotland. Later the congregation was linked that that of Fordoun in 1961 and a further linkage followed in 1980 with Fettercairn. The kirk session of West Mearns was later formed when the three linked parishes were united together in 1994. The kirk session of Glenbervie sat within the Presbytery of Fordoun and later Brechin and Fordoun, until by Act of Assembly in 1961, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of the Presbytery of Angus and Mearns. |
