The church of King Edward, which was known of old as Kinedward, was dedicated to St Edward the Confessor and formerly belonged to the Abbey of Deer. The ruins of a 12th cenury Norman church still stand within the parish and the Parish Church of King Edward was latterly built in 1848. In 1978 King Edward linked with Gamrie, this arrangement however was terminated in 1992, following the retiral of the minister of Gamrie and the consequent closure of the church. A further link later followed in 1993 with Banff Trinity and Alvah which continued after the union of Banff Trinity and Alvah with Banff St Mary's in 1994. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Turriff until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
