The church of Fraserburgh parish, which was known of old as Philorth, was dedicated to St Modan and ministry of the session is recorded from 1567, in the person of David Brodie. In 1571 the church was removed from its original situation at Kirkton (to the south of Fraserburgh), to a new location within the town of Fraserburgh, which had recently been founded by Sir Alexander Fraser of Philorth. In addition to the parish church of Fraserburgh, which was re-built in 1802, there existed a mission chapel within the bounds of the parish at Techmuiry. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Deer, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
