Prior to the reformation the parish of Foulden belonged to the Priory of Coldingham and ministry of the session is recorded from 1563, in the person of Alexander Ramsay. Within the old parish church of Foulden, which was rebuilt in 1786, a meeting took place on the 24th March 1587 between the Commissioners of Scotland and England, at which the recent execution of Mary, Queen of Scots was discussed. During the 18th century two abortive attempts were made to join the parishes of Mordington and Foulden however the two remained distinct charges until they were united as Foulden and Mordington Kirk Session in 1927. In 1978 Foulden and Mordington established a link with Hutton, Fishwick and Paxton. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and later of Duns. |
