The church of Edrom, which was anciently dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was granted in 1139 to Coldingham Priory by Earl Gospatrick and in 1499, Robert Blackadder, the Arch Bishop of Glasgow enlarged the Church by adding a chapel dedicated to Our Lady and St. John the Baptist. In 1737 the church was largely demolished and re-built but the Chapel built by Bishop Blackadder still stands and is now called the Blackadder Aisle. In 1947, Edrom united with the former United Free Church congregation of Allanton, under the name of Edrom Allanton and a link was later established in 1978 with Bonkyl and Preston with Chirnside. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and presently of Duns. |
