The Kirk Session of London St Columba's, otherwise known as London St Columba's Pont Street, was first established in 1883 and the foundation stone of the church, which opened in 1894, was laid in that year by the Earl of Aberdeen, Lord High Commissioner. In May 1941, during WWII, the church and halls of St Columba's were entirely destroyed during an air raid and a new church was later re-built, and opened a number of years later in 1955. In 1970 London Dulwich East St James's linked with the charge of London St Columba's Pont Street, however this arrangement was later terminated in 1972 in favour of a union between the two sessions, under the name of London St Columba's. A link later followed in 1983 with Newcastle St Andrew's. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of London, presently of England, and formerly the Synod of the Scottish Church in England. |
