There has existed a church at Ancrum, the parish of which was united with the ancient parish of Langnewton towards the end of the 16th century, from as early as the year 1116 and a new church was latterly built in 1889. In 1929 the congregation changed its name to Anrum West Church of Scotland to differentiate it from the former United Free Charge of Anrum East. These two charges united, however, in 1933 and the united charge reverted to the simple name of Ancrum Church of Scotland. In 1968 the congregation of Minto linked with Ancrum, however this arrangement was later terminated in 1976 in favour of a linkage with Jedburgh, which in turn was also terminated in 1991 and a further linkage followed in 1994 with Lilliesleaf and in 1999 with Crailing and Eckford. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Jedburgh, later of Jedburgh and Kelso and presently of Jedburgh. |
