The old parish church of Banff, which was rebuilt in 1790 and later renovated in 1929, was dedicated to St Mary and it formerly belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1563, in the person of William Martin, reader. In 1994 Banff St Mary's formed a union with Banff Trinity and Alvah under the name of Banff, the charge of King Edward had been linked in the previous year with Banff Trinity and Alvah and this linkage continued after the 1994 union. The Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Fordyce until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
