Dunnichen church of the thirteenth century seems to be identical with the chapel of Strathechtyn which with its chapel was granted to Arbroath Abbey in 1201-1207 by Gillechrist, Earl of Anegus. Ministry began in 1563 in the person of James Cochrane, vicar. From at least 1976 the session was within the jurisdiction of Angus Presbytery, before which time it was within the jurisdiction of Angus and Mearns Presbytery from at least 1955. Prior to this period, the session was within the jurisdiction of Forfar Presbytery. In September 1931 the session united with Kirkden and Letham to be known as Dunnichen Letham and Kirkden (CH2/1632) |
