A chapel situated within the north district of Saltcoats was constituted, by Act of Assembly, in 1837 as a Gaelic Chapel, during the years 1843 to 1872 however the chapel is recorded as being vacant. Due to declining numbers of Gaelic speaking families the presbytery sanctioned in 1873 that the chapel should re-open as a Mission Church within the Church of Scotland and in 1906 the Parish of Saltcoats North was disjoined from Ardrossan and erected as a quoad sacra parish. The former Gaelic Chapel remained in use as the parish church of Saltcoats North until 1965 when the congregation was transported to a new church. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Irvine and later of Ardrossan. |
