Prior to the reformation the church of Kennethmont, which held a dedication to St Rule and was in early times granted a collegiate endowment, belonged to the Abbey of Lindores. In 1630 the parish of Rathmureal was joined with Kennethmont and 1932, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Kennethmont further united with the former United Free Church congregation of Kennethmont Ardler. Following this local union the Kennethmont Ardler church ceased to be used as a place of worship and was later demolished. In 1955 Kennethmont established a link with the charge of Gartly and in 1985 the session of Noth was formed when Clatt with Rhynie united with Gartly with Kennethmont. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Alford and later of Strathbogie until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
