The church of Tyrie, which is thought to have first been erected in 1004 and was last re-built in 1800, was dedicated to St Andrew and belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Abbey of Arbroath. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1567, in the person of Alexander Ogston, reader. In 1954 Tyrie established a link with the charge of Aberdour St Drostan's however this arrangement was later terminated in 1995 in favour of a link with Strichen. The Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Deer, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
