The old church of Gamrie, which by decree of the Court of Teinds 1817, was removed to a new site near Gardenstown, was dedicated to St John the Evangelist and belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Abbey of Arbroath. The present day church was later erected in 1830. In 1932 Gamrie Parish Church united with the Gamrie portion of the former United Free Church congregation of Gamrie and Gardenstown East. After the local union, under the name of Gamrie, the former United Free church ceased to be used as a place of worship. Gamrie later established a link with New Blyth however the link was terminated in 1971and a further link followed in 1978 with King Edward. In 1992 the arrangement with King Edward was also terminated and in the same year the congregation of Gamrie was dissolved. The Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Turriff, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
